The Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) is a non-profit organization comprising Central Securities Depositories and Clearing Houses from Africa and the Middle East. Since its establishment in 2005, AMEDA has played a pivotal role in promoting best practices, facilitating information exchange, and enhancing the efficiency and security of financial markets within the region.

What Is ISO Certification?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) develops globally recognized standards that ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products and services. Achieving ISO certification demonstrates that an organization adheres to these standards and maintains effective management systems.

At CSCS, we have taken great strides in our journey with ISO. While we were previously certified against ISO 27001:2013, this year, we raised the bar by certifying against the latest ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO 22301:2019 standards. This achievement was made possible through our Integrated Management System (IMS), which harmonizes our Information Security and Business Continuity efforts to deliver on our objectives.

Mr. Jalo-Waziri, who also represents the global community of Central Securities Depositories on the Operating Committee of the International Securities Services Association (ISSA) brings to AMEDA almost three decades hands-on experience in the region’s financial services sector, across different segments of the market, including capital market regulation, pensions and conventional asset management, investment and commercial banking, Exchange management and post-trade services.

As the Chief Executive Officer of CSCS, Mr. Jalo-Waziri has led transformation of CSCS into an agile and innovative market infrastructure, delivering unprecedented results to the company’s shareholders and broader Nigerian capital market stakeholders.

Speaking on the election, Mr. Jalo-Waziri noted: “I feel greatly honored by my nomination and more so the overwhelming vote of confidence at the election. 2021 has been an unusual year, with the pandemic dominating our lives as we get to witness the virus mutate into different variants. Thanks to science, we now have vaccine that has cushioned the impact of the virus on the global economy. We witnessed the movement restrictions imposed in 2020 gradually relaxed during the year. 

Through the collective efforts of YOU, our esteemed stakeholders, we have adapted to the ‘new normal’ way of doing business which has enhanced our engagements in driving initiatives that will deepen the Nigerian Capital Market.

At the onset of the pandemic, we listened, learned, and captured all the feedback you provided on areas of improvement and mutual collaboration in our business relationships. I am happy to say that we have made some progress on those key deliverables but, we will not rest on our oars till we deliver 100% best-in-class service to your businesses and exceed expectations.

To this end, we have gone ahead to develop a 5-year strategy plan that underlies building a culture of shared success with our stakeholders, always demonstrating operational excellence, and developing client-centric solutions with a clear market benefit that works for all. According to the Group Company Secretary, Mr. Charles Ojo, the AGM will be done “in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the conduct of Annual General Meetings via proxies in Nigeria as part of the measures to mitigate the negative effect created by the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. CSCS requests every member who is entitled to attend and vote at the company’s 26th Annual General Meeting to appoint a proxy from the list of designated individuals to attend and vote in his or her stead. Attendance of the Annual General meeting shall be by proxy only”.

Mr. Ojo further explained that “a proxy needs not be a member of the company. Electronic copies of proxy forms will be received via e-mail to designated contacts as specified in the Notice of Meeting not less than 48 hours before the time fixed for the meeting”.

During the AGM, CSCS will transact ordinary business such as receive and consider the company’s audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2019 and the Reports of the Directors, Auditors and Statutory Audit Committee; declare a final dividend; elect/re-elect Directors; authorise the Directors to fix the remuneration of the Auditors amongst other businesses.

The adoption of a proxy AGM is in line with the CSCS’ commitment to contain the spread of Coronavirus by adopting all the necessary safety measures such as maintaining social distancing, constant hand washing, use of sanitizers amongst, other measures to curb the spread of the virus.
